Standards and Global Education

Standard #1- Standard and Standard Source:

Standard A.3 (from Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards for Foreign Languages)

Opinions: Students will defend personal preferences, feelings, and opinions with more complete explanation.

Integrating global education: Global education can be incorporated into this standard by asking students to form an opinion on the health issue that the students study, rather than simply reporting their findings on it. To incorporate the global competency of "recognizing perspectives” students are required to investigate what it's actually like for people who are experiencing the health issue that they are investigating.

Informal outcome assessment: Students will present their findings to the class on the health problems they investigated, including their personal feelings and opinions.

Standard #2- Standard and Standard Source:

Standard E.3 (from Wisconsin's Model Academic Standards for Foreign Languages)

Mutual Influences: Students will discuss how historical and contemporary influences from other cultures shape people's views of the world and their own attitudes toward issues facing the world.

Integrating global education: Global education can be incorporated  into this standard by asking students to explain the health issue that they investigate in relation to how the issue also impacts them / how it affects their local community (Glocalization!)

Informal outcome assessment: In the presentation that students make to their class, defining the problem they investigated, students will also explain how this problem impacts their local community.
