What's the best way to get to El Cerro del Santísimo? Why, by helicopter, of course! After buzzing by the park's main feature several times, a 37 meter tall statue of Jesus, we landed at the park's helipad. The park is about 2 years old, and along with the gigantic Jesus statue (which also has elevators behind it, which allow you to ascend to Jesus' head), the park affords beautiful views of the city of Bucaramanga, as well as of the hundreds of small farms and terraced fields on the mountain sides surrounding the park. During our visit to the park we were treated to periodic performances of traditional Colombian dances by a dance troupe of 10-14 year olds. The night ended with a water / light show and a peaceful ride back down the dark mountainside on the park's teleférico (cable car) system. Tomorrow we're off to San Juan de Girón, a small colonial town on the outskirts of Bucaramanga. It promises to be another day full of experiencing Colombian culture...but maybe with a little less adventure. ;)
