With the newly signed peace accord between the Colombian government and FARC, Colombia has made it a priority to incorporate peace education into their schools. We saw evidence of this from elementary students to eleventh graders in two public schools that we visited today. For example, a group of fifth graders explained to us the detailed process that they use to build peace in their classrooms and school, and a group of eleventh graders passionately walked us through their Model U.N. objectives, dealing with conflict and learning to understand the perspectives of others. It was inspiring to hear these young people speak so eloquently about the importance of peace and their personal responsibility in building a peaceful world.
